Online casino usage is becoming rampant in Japan, despite recent high-profile crackdowns and harsher punishments for gamblers and operators.
According to a study by the Japanese anti-gambling NGO, the Society Concerned About Gambling Addiction (SCGA), online casino usage is on the rise in Japan. The SCGA, which offers counseling for gambling addicts, interviewed over 460 individuals to gather insights into the trend.
The study revealed that Japanese online casino users are accumulating an average debt of $69,000, indicating a concerning financial impact on individuals involved in online gambling activities.
