A Gambling Commission consultation on where betting companies’ fines should go has drawn a sharp line between operators on one side and charitable organisations on other.
Between February and April 2026, the Gambling Commission conducted a consultation to determine the destination of fines imposed on betting companies. The main options considered were directing the funds to the government’s Consolidated Fund or to charitable organizations. After the consultation period, the Commission concluded that the money collected from regulatory penalties should be transferred to the government's account.
